Day 304

Happy Halloween

Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday, minus the trick-or-treating. I hate trick or treating, however, I love what the Halloween stands for:
It initiates the autumn triduum of All-hallow-tide, the time of year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed believers. Within All-hallow-tide, the traditional focus of All Hallows' Eve revolves around the theme of using "humor and ridicule to confront the power of death."
        Tomorrow is All Saint's Day.
"All Saints' Day is the centerpiece of the autumn triduum. In the carnival celebrations of All Hallows' Eve our ancestors used the most powerful weapon in the human arsenal, the power of humor and ridicule to confront the power of death. The following day, in the commemoration of All Saints, we gave witness to the victory of incarnate goodness embodied in remarkable deeds and doers triumphing over the misanthropy of darkness and devils. And in the commemoration of All Souls we proclaimed the hope of common mortality expressed in our aspirations and expectations of a shared eternity."
Very cool. I like dead people. Much better than I like the living...

Day 303

"What do you drink today?"

  • Water
  • Coffee
  • Ginger ale

That's really all I ever drink ...

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

Day 302

"Which grade was your favorite? Why?"

        None. I hated them all.

Tuesday, October 28, 2014

Day 301

"A picture of someone you miss."

No. I miss too many people, and don't have pictures of them all on my computer, or anywhere online. I miss my friends who live far away, which is 3 out of 4. I miss old friends I haven't seen in years. I wonder how they are and hope they are well.

Monday, October 27, 2014

Day 300

"What is your favorite kind of soup?"

I have two: French Onion and Cream of Broccoli/Broccoli Cheddar. But I am really picky about French Onion soup. I don't like bread it in because soggy bread makes me gag (texture thing), and it must be mozzarella cheese on top, NOT swiss or provolone.

Sunday, October 26, 2014

Day 299

"A picture of yourself and a family member."

Matt and I, because I don't really have any family pictures on my computer, or online... They're all old 3x5's or 4x6's. I will have to fix that.

Saturday, October 25, 2014

Day 298

"Last time you were sick, what did you have?"

A haunted leg...

Friday, October 24, 2014

Day 297

"Who is your favorite actor/actress and why?"

        It's so hard to chose.

  • Lauren Graham because she was Lorelai Gilmore, who is my idol in every way.
  • Matt Davis because he is beautiful and smart and funny and kind and goofy and just all around amazing.
  • David Tennant because he's my favorite Doctor.
  • Ian Somerhalder because Damon Salvatore.
  • Leo Dicaprio because... Leo Dicaprio.
  • Paul Newman because he was so fucking hot in his day...
  • Jennifer Lawrence because she's HILARIOUS!
  • Kate Winslet because she just good in everything she does.
  • Ellen DeGeneres even though she doesn't do much acting anymore, she is still amazing, and hilarious.
  • Emilia Clarke because I have a serious girl crush on her. She's the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life.

Thursday, October 23, 2014

Day 296

"A picture of something you wish you were better at."

Writing.
I actually do a lot of this (see above). Sit, pondering as I stare at my story wondering what the fuck I was thinking when I wrote that?!

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

Day 295

"Describe your perfect date."

Early dinner, to avoid crowds, preferably on a week day, because then the crowd and wait time is even less, then maybe a movie. Or just staying home and watching Netflix, order a pizza or subs, and cuddle on the couch.

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

Day 294

"Someone you would want to switch lives with for one day and why?"

A man, any man, just to know what it feels like to have a penis and think like a man, otherwise known as not think at all. Oh, what a dream that would be, to not worry about anything anymore or have the bad kind of overactive hormones. Only want sex, the fun part of hormones, and none of the crazy mood swings and not cry over a song because I'm PMSing... Men have it so easy, I wanna kick them all in the nuts.

Monday, October 20, 2014

Day 293

"How are you similar to and different from the majority of Twitter/Tumblr users?"

With the exception of all the celebrities, authors, athletes, etc, I am way older than most of them, I think. I am like them because I think we have similar ideas and outlooks on life.

Sunday, October 19, 2014

Day 292

"An overused saying you use a lot, and one you don't say but find incredibly annoying."

I'm sorry. I say it way too much, out of habit - and necessity growing up in my house - and Matt always looks at me like, "Why are you sorry that it's raining? Do you control the weather?" LOL Yeah, that's basically my life.

The one I kind incessantly fucking annoying is YOLO. OMFG STOP SAYING YOLO. Because you don't only live once, you live EVERY SINGLE DAY. You might only have one life (that we can remember), but in reality, you only DIE once. Okay? Thanks. Not STFU!

Saturday, October 18, 2014

Day 291

"Name an old song you still like."

How old? I like old Christmas songs, like “Christmas Wrappings” and “Baby, It's cold outside”, which is really, really dirty for a song written in the 1940's. I also still love my old 90's music like BSB, Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Sir Mix A Lot, and some 80's stuff too, like 99 Luft Balloons, Sweet Dreams, and SO MANY songs by Michael Jackson, George Michael, Phil Collins/Genesis, Journey, Air Supply, The Cure, Madonna, The Bangles and Starship. Michael Jackson was my childhood hero when I was about 6. My brother and I used to watch the freaky part claymation movie he did, Moonwalker, where he dances with rabbits and turns into a giant robot at the end. I saw parts of it on youtube a few years ago, after he passed, and I was like "What the fuck is this fuckery?!" It really is the trippiest movie when you're not 6.

Day 290

"What are some things you’re looking forward to next week/month."

Halloween is coming up soon and I love Halloween. I love witches and apples and purple and the idea that the spirit world is open to us on that day, even though I have yet to see or meet a spirit.
Dylan has quite a few days off from school in November so that's a plus. I like when he's home. Thanksgiving is okay. Not my favorite holiday, Christmas is my second favorite next to Halloween.

I am not, however, looking forward to snow. And daylight savings ending. I hate when it gets dark at 4:30-5:00pm, because then I can't drive - because I am fucking blind, literally, even with glasses/contacts - and I like being able to do things with my kid after school.

Thursday, October 16, 2014

Day 289

"Show us something that inspires you."

This video always inspires me, makes me cry, and makes everything inside of me feel so deeply, it's indescribable. One of my all time favorite videos ever. And this song in incredible.

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

Day 288

"Recommend a few Tumblr accounts you like/follow, and write why you recommended them."

  • Ernesto's Starship - Because Matt Davis is a genius, hilarious, caring, giving, and probably one of the best human beings I have ever had the privilege of knowing (online).
  • A Spirit Inspired - This is my own kindness blog, with a little bit of myself thrown in; author/writing posts, outer space, cats, quotes, some gilmore girls and doctor who, and just some posts I really like.
  • TWLOHA - To Write Love On Her Arms; A positive place for people who have ever self injured or been suicidal.
  • Kids Need Science - because kids need mother fucking science! They are our future!
  • The Actual Universe - because it's beautiful and magical and wonderful.
  • Beth Revis - Writer of the Across the Universe trilogy (so good) and a wonderful person! She also posts really beautiful pictures.
  • Michelle Hodkin - writer of the Mara Dyer books (MY CURRENT OBSESSION!) She's also funny and posts good Mara Dyer pictures/gifs.
  • Fuck Yeah Gilmore girls - because, Gilmore girls.

Tuesday, October 14, 2014

Day 287

"What did you eat today?"

  • An onion bagel from Wegmans
  • Coffee
  • Ginger ale
  • Jonamac Apple (my favorite!)
  • Strawberries

Sunday, October 12, 2014

Day 285

Off to Tupper Lake!

My fiance and I are going on a mini vacation, just the two of us, today. Driving to the Adirondacks, Tupper Lake to be specific, and spending the night in one of those little cabins that are just motel rooms, but adorable.
I will be sure to post pictures tomorrow when I get home.
It's been SO LONG since we've had any time together without both or one of the kids, seeing as we have his son every weekend. It's going to be so nice to spend some quality grown up time together.
I'm so old, I say things like "grown up time." We'll probably be in bed by 9...

Day 284

"Why did you decide to do this challenge?"

I decided to do this challenge because I needed something to keep me writing every day, even if it's only a few sentences or a list or an idea. I think the fact that I've actually stuck with it for this long is pretty good, knowing my track record. I have a tendency to not finish what I start, i.e., ALL 27 STORIES ON MY LAPTOP. I have a really active imagination, and have some kick ass ideas for stories, and I always start them, but never get remotely close to finishing them.
Aubrey Nightingale is the closest one I have to being complete, with 300+ pages and 96k+ words, but I struggle with it daily. I open it up and read and edit and delete and write more and edit and delete, and the process is seemingly endless.
I will finish this challenge. On December 31, 2014, you will see my last post on this blog, and it will be a giant victory for Jess.

Friday, October 10, 2014

Day 283

"What was the last post you made on Tumblr that doesn't involve a challenge?"

Seeing as I am not doing this challenge on Tumblr, even though I know it was made for Tumblr, I will just show you my last post, which is most likely a reblog:

        http://aspiritinspired.tumblr.com/post/99562865794

       There you go.

Thursday, October 9, 2014

Day 282

"If you were stranded on an Island, who would be with you and what limited 10 items would you both have?"

I'd be with my fiance, Matt, because I wouldn't want my son to be stranded like that. He'd be home safe with family.
Ten items we'd have would be:

  1. Fresh water
  2. A sharp knife
  3. A lighter
  4. Two blankets
  5. An ax
  6. A Box of Nails
  7. Shampoo
  8. Sunblock
  9. A Hair brush and hair ties (i've got long hair...)
  10. A Wilson Volleyball (because, DUH!)

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

Day 281

"What was the last movie you watched?"

        If I Stay ... I think.
I didn't read the book, but the movie was kind of disappointing. At least, the ending was. I hate when movies just ... end. With no real resolution, or epilogue. I know there's a sequel (to the book), so I guess it makes sense, but I was like,"SRSLY?!"
I almost shouted it in the theater...

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

Day 280

"Two things you want."

  1. A house. Nothing fancy, just big enough for all of us to live in, and not a money pit.
  2. A job where I don't have to deal with people, ever.

Monday, October 6, 2014

Day 279

"Three things you miss."

  1. Coffee chats with my bubby.
  2. Concentration.
  3. Being able to think positive about everything.

Sunday, October 5, 2014

Day 278

"Four things you wish you could say, but may never be able to."

  1. "I do."/"I will." (not sure how they do it now...)
  2. "I'll take the job!"
  3. "We got the house!"
  4. "Let's go to Walmart on a Saturday!"

Saturday, October 4, 2014

Day 277

"Five songs you like."

  1. Habits (Stay High) by Tove Lo
  2. Over by Tove Lo
  3. Big Girls Cry by Sia
  4. Hard Out Here by Lily Allen
  5. All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor

Friday, October 3, 2014

Day 276

"Six things you love."

Since you said "things" and not "people", I am going to make a list of material possessions because I do not consider people to be "things."
  1. My laptop
  2. My car
  3. My old 4s iPhone
  4. My journals and pens
  5. My Kindle and books
  6. My bed

Thursday, October 2, 2014

Day 275

"Seven things that cross your mind a lot."

  1. Will I ever be able to finish writing this damn book?
  2. Did I update my blog today?
  3. I hope Dylan's having a good day at school.
  4. I hope Matt is okay driving on Long Island.
  5. I'm bored... and there's nothing else left to clean. What can I do?
  6. I want to go somewhere, but I have no clue where to go.
  7. Everything that is wrong is always my fault. I suck.

Wednesday, October 1, 2014

Day 274

"What was the worst thing to happen to you in middle school?"

The worst hair cut in the history of hair cuts. I wanted my hair chin length. I showed her where I wanted it to fall, and she said okay.
I ended up with a bowl cut and it fell just ON TOP OF MY EARS.
HOW DO YOU MIX UP CHIN LENGTH FOR EAR LENGTH???
I cried and was so pissed. I got made fun of at school. People kept asking me if I was a boy or a girl.
I didn't cut my hair for 2 years after that happened, and now I am afraid to cut off more than 3 inches at a time.
